DNA extraction from lynx hair

Once this cat was quite common in all of some part Europe. By the middle of the 19th century, it had become extinct in most countries of Central and Western Europe. Recently, there have been successful attempts to reintroduce lynx to forests 

How to do it

Put 3-10 hairs in 87,5 ul Mole lysis buffer

Add 12,5 ul 20ng/ml prot K

Incubate 56 degrees C O/N

Add 100 ul to the GeneMole using Molestrips DNA Tissue and the DNA Tissue 8 protocol

 

Results

  • DNA yield and consentration not tested, but lots of DNA visible when 5ul of the eluate were ran on an agarose gel
  • Samples worked very well on PCR

Downstream application tested

PCR (FCA001 F/R) 55degrees 40 cycles.
